How To Stain Pine Furniture
Posted under Pine, Stains, WoodUsing wood Stains can be a tricky process. Pine can easily absorb the stain in an uneven way, or the stain can be applied too thick which means it will dry incorrectly and be tacky.
To start with you will need to prepare the wood. Sanding and cleaning is required for the best preparation. Sanding will remove a previous coating, if there was one, and it also will open up the grain so it will penetrate the wood better. Once you have completed the sanding you will need to make sure you have cleaned all the dust off. To do this it’s best to use a tack cloth. A tack cloth is a pad that is made from treated loose weave fabric. It will catch every little piece of dust.

Now to apply the stain. Stir the stain well before use. Apply the stain with a brush or a soft cloth. Remove any excess stain sitting on the surface. Then rub the pigment in to the wood in a circular motion using a soft cloth. Wipe over again in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat the process to deepen the color until you get the result you are after.
To protect the stained wood apply a polyurethane top coat, making sure to stir it well before use. Always apply in the direction of the wood grain.
